It's a holiday! Hoorah! Although I've never really worked out why I feel the
need to get up at the 'crack of dawn' on weekends and holidays when
on a regular work day I hang on and savour every last micro second in bed.
Why is that?
Today's holiday is to celebrate Korean Independance from Japanese
occupation. On March 1, 1919, Koreans held nationwide protests against
the Japanese colonial government. The show of resistance failed, but is
widely viewed as the first step in South Korea's eventual independence in
1945. Hence, March 1st was chosen as the symbolic beginning of the
independance movement and consequently chosen as a National Holiday.
