BUSAN : With the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum starting yesterday
South Korea is going all out to ensure a safe and successful event. The week-long
gathering of political leaders from around the world will take place in the southern port
city of Busan. South Korea's defence and security forces conducted joint counter-terrorism
drills near Nurimaru in Busan where the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation leaders'
summit will be held. Eleven agencies including the National Intelligence
Agency, police and military were involved. Park Hyeong-gyu, Hobo Craft
Captain, South Korean Coast Guard, said: "Naval ships and troops, among
them 1,000 personnel from the Coast Guard, are guarding Nurimaru.
They're ready to block any terrorist infiltration." Thirty wartime vessels and a
fleet of patrol boats are in place. In addition to maritime vessels like these,
F-16 fighter jets will also patrol the sky during the summit period.
