It would have been a lot easier for all concerned if Lord Browne had been more courageous and not attempted to hide his sexuality once 'the game was up'. It would also have saved him several million pounds to boot! I'm sure it was an open secret in any event so why go to such absurd lengths to hide it?. Possibly because his support in the past (both moral and financial) has been for the Conservative right in Britain who's agenda amongst other things has included attacks on gay relationships with a strict programme of what they lovingly describe as 'family values'.
The reason for his resignation has been given as the fact that he lied in court when he claimed to have met his ex-boyfriend while walking his dog or some such nonsense. In actual fact they had met through an escort site called "Suited and Booted" - well big deal! Although, I suspect it would have been a big deal to his political and social network which is again why he tried so fruitlessly to silence the gutter press.
Would he have resigned had he not lied in court and his only 'crime' being that he is gay? Unfortunately, I am of the firm opinion that he would even though he was up until this point one of the most powerful and influential players in the worldwide business community.
His biggest crime is his hypocrisy and for that he should have resigned.
As for his ex-gay lover selling the story to the UK gutter press - that's another story in itself.
